Arguably one of the best engines ever produced by BMW… The B58 at time of writing there is three main variations of this engine but the one we see most is the first version. This is a very capable engine with great power capabilities in without need to swap internals. It is not uncommon to see 800bhp from a stock engine mated with hybrid turbo, uprated fuel pump & methanol.
It is usual whilst tuning these to upgrade and gap the spark plugs to NGK 94201 as stock plugs can misfire under increased power from tuning. For those looking for more power than Stage 2 its very common to see stage 2+ which is stage 2 with an upgraded fuel pump and can see circa of 500 bhp.
Whilst tuning options like Cold Start, Speed Limiter, Burbles on Sport mode can be configured
Stage 1 remap requires no physical changes to be made to the car this is software only and sees a huge gain in performance from standard power.
Stage 2 remap requires exhaust modifications, whether sports cat, decat & on newer models OPF/ PPF removal. At this power gearbox mapping is recommended also.
Stage 3 packages consist of upgraded HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) usually in the form of a Dorsch or a later B58tu pump and a hybrid turbo such as a pure 800 or pure 850. With the addition of methanol or ethanol we are seeing north of 700 bhp comfortably on these cars.
